Xavier Bonal Sarró

Xavier Bonal is Associate Professor in Sociology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and director of the Social Policy Research Group (Seminari d’Anàlisi de Polítiques Socials, SAPS) at the Department of Sociology of the same institution. His main research interests include the study of educational policy and the sociology of education. He has published extensively in national and international journals of education and is author and co-author of several books on sociology of education, education policy, globalisation and education and educational inequalities.

Xavier Bonal has been consultant for the Directorate-General Research in the European Commission. He has also worked as a consultant for national education departments in several countries, including European and Latin American countries. He has been invited as a Visiting professor to different universities, where he has taught courses on education policy and sociology of education. Since June 2006 he holds the responsibility of being Deputy Ombudsman for Children’s Rights in Catalonia.
