Sharon Gewirtz
Sharon Gewirtz is Professor of Education and co-director of the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR)
at King's College London. The CPPR is a multi-disciplinary research
centre, committed to using research to inform national and
international public policy debate. Sharon Gewirtz's research is in the
sociology of education and education policy.
She has published
extensively on issues of equality and social justice, public sector
restructuring, education reform, the policy process and values in
social research, and has conducted UK ESRC-funded research on market
forces and parental choice in education, the changing culture and
values of schooling in the context of managerial reform, education
action zones and changing teacher roles, identities and
professionalism.
She is on the editorial boards of the British Journal of the Sociology of Education, the European Educational Research Journal, the Journal of Education Policy and the London Review of Education. She is currently co-editing two special issues of the European Educational Research Journal
- one on the the multicultural question and education in Europe and the
other on the effects of new forms of regulation in education in Europe.
Sharon Gewirtz also co-convenes the Politics and Policy Studies network of the European Educational Research Association.
