Sonja Kump

Sonja Kump is a Professor of comparative adult education and sociology of education at the Department of Pedagogy and Andragogy, Faculty of Arts at University of  Ljubljana.

Research interests and recent activities  Her research interests are oriented on comparative adult and lifelong education, sociology of higher education and evaluation of quality in higher education and research. Currently she examines the impact of education on quality of life of the older adults.

As a researcher she was coordinator of several national projects such as access to higher education, the impact of university of the socialization processes, students' professional and educational careers, the regional origin of Slovene students, the role and position of university teaching staff, academic and disciplinary cultures, evaluation of quality in higher education, academic cultures, higher education policy, quality assurance of Slovene higher education in the international context, evaluation of scientific research in Slovenia. She was also national coordinator of international projects: the longitudinal FORM - project about students'socialization: "University Graduates: Their Training and Conception of Life", the project "Access to Higher Education" in which the main research interest has been mainly in studying and analyzing patterns of access to higher education, study motivations and work expectations offreshmen in a multinational comparative aspect..
As  an expert for higher education evaluationshe was involved in three PHARE projects: Capacity Building and Human ResourcesDevelopment Measures for Higher Education in Bosnia-Herzegovina; Quality Assurance in Higher Education; European Dimension of Institutional Quality Management.

Membership of professional bodies:  She is a member of national and international professional associations such as Slovenian Sociological Association, Slovenian Association for Teaching in Higher Education, Slovenian Association for the education in the third age, Slovenian Andragogic Association, European Society for Research on the Education of Adults (ESREA), Consortium of Higher Education Researchers (CHER). She is also a member of editorial board of two Slovenian professional journals: Družboslovne razprave (Sociological discussions), Andragoška spoznanja (Journal of adult education in Slovenia).
