Pepka Boyadjieva is professor at the Institute of Sociology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. She is also Academic Associate at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Sofia.

In 1980 she received her Ph.D in Sociology of Education and gained the title Doctor of Sciences in 1999.
Boyadjieva has been lecturing at the University of Sofia and the New Bulgarian University.

She was awarded the Andrew Mellon Fellowship twice - at the Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Edinburgh in 1999 and at the American Academy in Rome in 2003.
In 2007 she was selected for Fulbright’s New Century Scholar Program “Higher Education in the 21st Century: Access and Equity”.

Pepka Boyadjieva has participated in a number of research projects.
At present she is a leader of the Bulgarian team in the international 6FP project “Towards the Lifelong Learning Society in Europe: The Contribution of the Education System”.

Her research interests pertain to different models of relationship between university and society; education, science and modernization; lifelong learning, public understanding of science.

Research interests: university as an institution, different models of relationship between university and society, education and modernization .
