The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) is a not-for-profit company owned by the federal, state and territory ministers responsible for training in Australia. It is responsible for collecting, managing, analysing, evaluating and communicating research and statistics about vocational education and training (VET). NCVER's vision is for policy and practice in vocational education and training to be based on sound evidence.

NCVER has six broad areas of activity. It:

  • undertakes a strategic program of VET research, including the management of the national VET research competitive grants program
  • collects and analyses national VET statistics and survey data
  • collects and provides research findings on vocational education and training from around the world through the VOCED research database
  • publishes and communicates the results of research and data analysis
  • builds links with similar international organisations to foster comparative analysis and collaborate on issues of mutual interest
  • undertakes commercial consultancies.
