Monitoring Educational Achievement
Paris : UNESCO, IIPE
Quality assessment of education systems is crucial, particularly in developing countries. However, it is not always easy to achieve, particularly in schools. Over the past two decades a ‘good school’ has been measured principally by outputs (pupil achievement), rather than inputs (education provided). Written in an accessible style, this book explains what monitoring educational achievement means. It draws on concrete examples from national and international case studies to provide answers to important questions on educational achievements, standards, costs and surveys. Finally, it highlights key technical standards for sample survey work in monitoring educational achievement, which will be particularly useful for educational planners working in different school contexts and systems.
