Research areas
My earlier research has mainly concerned the importance and functions of education in Swedish society. I have thus conducted several studies of the education ideologies and strategies of major social actors (the social partners of the Swedish Labour market, the Swedish Conservative Party) in the 20th Century. In the last decade my research has focused on changed forms of education governance introduced in contemporary Sweden - in particular decentralisation, deregulation and the introduction of a market ideology - in particular against a European context. Local youth policies, new patterns of school-to-work transitions and life-careers is another, closely related research field. Finally, I am at present part of the Swedish team in a large FP 7 project, aiming at the development of new quality indicators in European educational research.
