Røthing is a researcher on gender and a sociologist of religion. "Sex, kjønn & kristentro" (Sex, gender and Christian faith) is the telling title of her first book, which was a revised version of her Master's thesis. Subsequently, she wrote her doctoral thesis on heterosexual, interfaith relationships.
